**The Misuse of Love**
Love, a term meant to convey the heart felt emotions and deep connections, has unfortunately been frequently abused and misused. The term "love" is frequently spoken out of context, rendering it a misunderstood and misapplied concept.
In some instances, it's even perceived akin to a four-letter curse word, evoking disdain and discomfort due to its flagrant misuse. There are litterally people who become highly agitated when someone tells them "I love you" because they have learned to associate the term love with disappointment and pain.
As a survivor of domestic violence, I chose to become a crisis counselor to support others facing similar challenges. Throughout my journey, I've seen firsthand how abusers manipulate their victims, coercing them to say "I love you" immediately after the abuse or justifying their actions by claiming it's out of love. It's a common pattern where abusers profusely confess their love while promising never to repeat the violence, perpetuating a cycle of manipulation and harm.
Lust and love are often used as inter exchangeable terms when they are in fact opposing factions. Lust is only interested in it's wants and desires. Lust tends to leave one party feeling used and or abused. Love focuses on the wants and needs of others.
**Love as a Misguided Solution**
Often, love is brandished as a quick-fix solution for inconsiderate or offensive behavior. By just say the words " I Love You" many exspect all transgressions to be instantly erased. It's carelessly thrown around as a cover-up, a poor substitute for genuine actions that convey true sentiment and care. This misuse only contributes to the shrouding of love's true depths.
Even with God's all encompassing love though you are forgive, you still must face the consequences of your actions and actively make amends. Repentance is often a requirement of God's forgiveness, which means to fully turn about head in the opposite direction. You must ask forgiveness of the offened party, make amends - make a genuine efforts undo, and repair any damages caused and don't repeat the action or deed again. FUNNY how most regions forget to mention that part of the equation! It is clearly stated a multitude of times in scriptures.
***Cultural and Linguistic Shifts***
The overuse or misinterpretation of love can be attributed to cultural shifts and linguistic evolution. There are heart emojis, candy hearts, heart shaped boxes of candy etc. that are shared and given with little to no real thought or connection. We say we love our inanimate objects in the exact same way we say we love our spouse's and children. One word is used to covey all forms of love. When their are actually many words to express the many forms of love. Agape = Unconditional love being my favorite. Its the over-application and misapplied use that dilutes its essence, leading to a lack of understanding about loves genuine implications and complexities.
**The Elusive Depths of Love**
Due to its widespread misapplication, the depths of love often remain enigmatic to many. Love is as wide as an ocean and deep as the deepest sea and like the sun its radiance can warm even the coldest of hearts. Love is singularly the most powerful force in existence. It becomes a challenge to discern its true essence when it's frequently used in ways that undermine its significance and authenticity
As a result its complexities, nuances, and true essence are obscured by superficial usage, preventing individuals from truly grasping its transformative power and significance.
**Substitutes for Genuine Love**
Genuine love goes beyond mere verbal expressions; it's demonstrated through thoughtful actions, empathy, kindness, and sincere consideration for others' well-being. Using love as a cover-up or excuse dilutes its meaning and prevents its genuine manifestations.
Love is a verb! A verb is an action word. You can't have Love without actions that express said love. Mere lip service just won't cut it.
**Unveiling Love's True Meaning**
Its amazing how many people use the word love on a day to day basis and haven't a clue to what it means. A dictionary defines it as 1an intense feeling of deep affection. 2.a great interest and pleasure in something. The bible defines it as: 1 Cor v 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
To truly comprehend love's depth, it's essential to navigate beyond its surface-level misapplications. It requires a reevaluation of its usage, a reconnection with its genuine intention, and a conscious effort to express and perceive it in its most profound form.
Authentic love reveals itself through consistent, compassionate actions that speak louder than words ever could. -AMF
